SMYSC was formed in 1978 by an ad hoc group of representatives of various agencies involved in providing social services to sexual minority youth aged 13-21, including those who identify themselves as gay, bisexual, transsexual, or transvestite; youth who have been physically or sexually abused; youth prostitutes; and other youth marginalized by sex and/or sexuality issues.
